Dogs may have their own park in Laguna Beach, but they have to stay out of “tot lots.”
Citing health and safety factors, the City Council this week gave preliminary approval to a law that would ban dogs from playgrounds designed for small children. Even die-hard dog lovers said they wouldn’t mind the ban, so long as it didn’t extend to grassy park areas.
“I agree there is no earthly reason for dogs to be in tot lots,” said resident Betty Swenson, who has a Doberman mix named Margy.
With some residents concerned about dogs relieving themselves on sandy playgrounds, the city’s Recreation Committee had a series of public hearings before recommending the ban.
