Re “Mayor’s Budget Draws Heat at Hearing,” April 30: The slashing of Los Angeles Fire Department resources as proposed in the mayor’s budget represents a significant threat to public safety of the citizens of Los Angeles.
From Pacific Palisades, Brentwood and Mandeville, Stone, Benedict and Laurel canyons, to Sherman Oaks, Mt. Washington and El Sereno, one only has to view the history of wildfires in the Santa Monica Mountains and realize the catastrophic wildfire threat.
The failing infrastructure of the remainder of the city also poses a recognized conflagration potential.
The budget analysts would better serve the city if they based their cuts upon historical conflagration potential.
A stripped-down, undermanned Fire Department cannot hope to protect the citizens of this city.
