KHARTOUM, Sudan — Twenty-six university students were among the 53 killed in the crash of a Sudanese passenger plane, officials said.
The plane, en route to Khartoum, the capital, was attempting an emergency landing during a sandstorm Friday night when it crashed in a field near Shigla, about 200 miles northeast of the capital, because of poor visibility.
The jet struck a newly built, empty house near the cleared field, the officials said. No deaths or injuries were reported on the ground.
