Santa Barbara Sails Ahead in Channel, 69-58

In the battle for Channel League supremacy, Santa Barbara High defeated Buena, 69-58, Wednesday at Santa Barbara.

Mike Garrett scored 22 points and Rich Oosterhuis added 20 for the Dons (13-7, 7-1 in league play).

Ceneka Shaw scored 19 points for Buena (11-7, 6-2).

Buena defeated Santa Barbara, 61-47, earlier this month by holding Garrett to eight-of-29 shooting.

Simi Valley 87, Thousand Oaks 75--Pero Vasiljevic scored 43 points for the Pioneers in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.

The Pioneers (14-5, 6-3) outscored the Lancers in the second quarter, 24-6, and led, 62-43, at the end of the third quarter.

Mike Lauer had 18 points for the Lancers (9-10, 3-6).

Westlake 62, Camarillo 61--Jason Gaines hit a baseline jumper at the buzzer to win a Marmonte League game at Camarillo.

Chatsworth 84, Kennedy 66--Eddie Miller scored eight of his 26 points during a 15-2 run by the Chancellors to open the fourth quarter in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Miller also had 16 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Jerome Joseph scored 21 and Kevin Bentley added 12 for Chatsworth (6-8, 3-2).

Paul McFarlane had 20 points for Kennedy (10-7, 2-3).

Birmingham 46, San Fernando 36--Sophomore Ellis Richardson scored 31 points for the Braves (9-8, 3-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Cleveland 61, Taft 59--Cleveland trailed by 10 after three quarters but came back to win a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft (5-10, 1-4).

Donald Holt had 16 points and 21 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Grant 43, Monroe 42--Roget Jires stole the ball with three seconds left for the Lancers (9-9, 3-2).

North Hollywood 73, Reseda 64--Shannon Johnson had 24 points and 20 rebounds for the Huskies (6-13, 3-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda. Mandeep Hayre scored 21 points for Reseda (6-12, 2-3).

Sylmar 63, Poly 54--Daron Wilson had 26 points and 14 rebounds for Sylmar (5-10, 2-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

GIRLS

North Hollywood 68, Sylmar 51--Freshman Tashean Thomas had 14 points as the Huskies (13-3, 5-0) won their 32nd consecutive Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

El Camino Real 44, Granada Hills 41--Justina Williams had 10 points for the Conquistadores in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Taft 48, Kennedy 33--Monia Calhoun scored 20 points for the Toreadors in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Kennedy.
