North Hollywood : Man Dies, Woman Injured in Car Crash

An elderly man was killed and a woman injured after their cars collided at the intersection of Whitsett Avenue and Hatteras Street in North Hollywood, police said.

Clarence Beaman, 81, of North Hollywood, was driving east on Hatteras Street about 9:45 a.m. Monday when he tried to make a left turn onto Whitsett Avenue, Officer Jim Odin of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division said.

Beaman’s vehicle hit a southbound car on Whitsett, driven by Lucia Ortiz of Lake View Terrace, police said. Beaman apparently did not see the oncoming car, Odin said.

Beaman was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Ortiz was treated for injuries at Medical Center of North Hollywood and later released, Odin said.
