Puzzled About Morissette
Would someone please explain to me what the fuss over Alanis Morissette is all about? (“1995: Nothin’ but a She Thing,” Calendar, Dec. 30). As best as I can tell, she’s just another female singer who has the male rock critics all ga-ga because she writes sexually graphic songs; isn’t that why Liz Phair was so loved, even though no one bought her albums? “You Oughta Know” was OK the first two hearings, but her caterwauling voice made me lose interest quickly. From the little I could bear to listen to, “Jagged Little Pill” gave me a jagged little headache.
