Two motorists were killed Sunday night in a fiery head-on collision on California 118 near Camarillo, authorities said.
Ventura County firefighters used special equipment to free the bodies of the motorists from the twisted wreckage following the 8:08 p.m. accident.
A Fire Department spokeswoman said the force of the collision threw one of the vehicles into a ditch alongside the highway just west of Walnut Avenue.
California Highway Patrol officials said a black or dark blue pickup truck was involved in the crash, but a description of the other vehicle or how the accident occurred was not immediately available.
Although two ambulances were dispatched to the scene, it was not known if there were survivors from the accident.
The identities of the victims were not immediately known.
The collision shut down the highway in both directions. Westbound traffic was detoured onto Walnut Avenue while eastbound motorists were diverted onto La Vista Avenue.
