Lunch on Taco Bell: The Mexican-style fast-food chain closes its Irvine headquarters today and sends 800 employees to Taco Bells throughout Southern California to handle an expected deluge of customers. This is the day it plans to give away as many as 5 million low-fat tacos and burritos at outlets nationwide to promote its new “light” menu. The giveaways take place between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Anyone visiting the restaurant during the promotion, which has been accompanied by a $3.5-million advertising blitz, will be allowed to choose from seven Border Lights offerings.
