Wolf Pups Are Born in Yellowstone Park

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — One of the Canadian wolves transplanted to Yellowstone National Park this year has given birth, and mother and pups seem to be doing well.
Biologists discovered the litter of seven or eight pups in an area near Red Lodge, Mont., the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said.
Agency spokeswoman Sharon Rose said all members of a wolf pack normally help the female care for the young. But in this case, the male wolf is missing and presumed dead after its radio collar was found two weeks ago.
Because the mother is dependent on others for food while she weans the pups, biologists will bring in a carcass for the group, she said.
