SMALL FACES: The Rolling Stones are expected to record acoustic versions of some of their hits during their European tour this fall. Don Was is expected to return as producer. . . .
Pink Floyd will brighten CD bins starting June 6 with a two-disc set in a case equipped with a pulsing red light, powered by a battery that is geared to last for months. The highlight of this live set, recorded in London, is a long version of “Dark Side of the Moon.”
A two-hour video of the concert will be released at the same time. . . .
Boyz II Men is going on tour again, this time with TLC as opening act, tentatively set to start in July. . . . En Vogue ends its three-year album drought this fall. . . . Whitney Houston’s long-awaited greatest-hits album, featuring several new songs, has been postponed again--until late fall at least. . . . Ministry and Smashing Pumpkins are both finishing up albums which should be due in August and October, respectively. . . .
Oasis has followed the Stone Roses’ lead by parting company with its drummer, Tony McCarroll. . . . Breeders singer-bassist Kim Deal has just scrapped the band’s third album halfway through the recording. She will redo some of the songs for a solo album (due in the fall), and plans to start working on a new Breeders album around the same time. . . .
All the Beach Boys got together recently to shoot a video for a new song, “Summer of Love,” that is the first single from the new “Baywatch” soundtrack album. The group will appear in an upcoming episode of the series. . . . Motown’s four-CD Jackson 5 anthology has been rescheduled to June 27. . . . Correction: John Doe’s solo album is due Aug. 15. An incorrect date ran in last week’s Pop Eye.
