Nation to Buy Equipment From U.S. Firms: The Chinese government has placed a $157-million order for power equipment from Westinghouse Electric Corp. of Pittsburgh, according to a state-run newspaper. Westinghouse will supply a generator to the Yangzhou No. 2 Power Plant in Jiangsu province, the China Daily said. McDermott International Inc. of New Orleans announced that part of the order is a $155-million boiler system for the Yangzhou facility. The equipment will be used to build two coal-fired power generators, which are expected to begin operating in 1999 and 2000.
