WATCH IT MADE IN THE U.S.A.: A Visitor’s Guide to the Companies That Make Your Favorite Products by Bruce Brumberg and Karen Axelrod (John Muir Publications: $16.95; 295 pp., illustrated, paperback original). Brumberg and Axelrod have compiled a list of companies that offer tours of their factories, either for free or at a nominal charge. Visitors can see ice cream being made (Ben & Jerry’s, Vermont); glass being blown (Corning Glass Center, New York); bourbon distilled (Wild Turkey, Kentucky); chips being fried (Frito-Lay, Washington) and Hostess Twinkies being filled (Continental Bakery, Massachusetts). In places, the upbeat text reads a little too much like a press release, but people looking for unusual stops on their next vacation should consult “Watch It Made.”
