MALIBU : Gourmet Feast to Raise Funds for Fire Victims
- Share via
Artists, writers, restaurateurs, culinary gurus and gastronomes are planning a fund-raiser Sunday for a group serving victims of last year’s firestorm.
Proceeds from the “Sunset Celebration,” featuring live jazz and foods from well-known restaurants, will go to Operation Recovery, a group that formed within weeks of the fire to assist residents whose homes burned down.
The celebration will be held at the home of artist Arlene Waxman, who has installed a monumental sculpture using debris from the fire.
The $50-a-person feast will feature food from restaurants such as Wolfgang Puck’s Granita and Alice’s, both in Malibu, and Michael’s in Santa Monica.
Collaborating in the effort is Cathy Rogers, a cooking instructor who has compiled a cookbook of family recipes from fire victims, with vignettes about why the dishes are significant to them. Priced at $19.95, the cookbook is to be released at the end of this month, with proceeds going to Operation Recovery.
To make reservations for “Sunset Celebration,” call Ruth Rubenstein at (310) 456-2348. The event is to be held at 29377 Cliffside Drive in the Point Dume community of Malibu.
