Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Men Sought in Fires at Vacant Sites

PALMDALE — Sheriff’s deputies are looking for several men, possibly transients, suspected of setting six fires in vacant Palmdale businesses and houses on Monday.
No one was injured, and little property damage was reported, Sgt. Bob Denham said. The motive for the fires was not immediately determined, and investigators were seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating an unknown number of men seen running from the blazes set throughout the day.
“These were all abandoned structures,” Denham said. “In several of those places, there was evidence that transients had been living there.”
Witnesses reported seeing men running from the scene of several of the fires, but descriptions were sketchy. The fires occurred mainly in Palmdale’s former business district, near Sierra Highway.
