Police and Glendale Community College security officials are searching for an unidentified man who sneaked up on a cheerleader in the women’s locker room at the college Wednesday morning and tried to assault her.
The man, who could face attempted rape charges if caught, was fought off by the cheerleader, who suffered a slight injury to her knuckles when she punched him, said college spokeswoman Merry Shelburne.
The victim was shaving her legs in the shower area of the locker room about 6:40 a.m. when she saw a shadow on the shower curtain, according to a police report. She pulled the curtain back and saw the man standing in the shower area. The man reportedly slapped at the woman and missed, then ran away after she punched him.
The suspect was described as about 5 feet, 3 inches tall, about 135 pounds, with a slight build and a small mustache.
