Nick Trani, the softball coach at Orange Coast the last six seasons, is leaving to take the same position at Saddleback, he said Monday.
Trani hopes to eventually get a full-time teaching position at Saddleback. He worked at OCC as a walk-on, teaching only the softball class. He will teach three classes at Saddleback.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Trani said. “It’s a great area for talent and the administration is excited about the program.”
Trani had a 180-92 mark at OCC, including reaching the State tournament three of the last four seasons. His 1992 team won the Orange Empire Conference title.
Trani will be joined by his OCC assistants Jesse Sims and John Campbell.
“The hardest part was telling the players (at OCC),” Trani said.
