BRIEFLY : Pets: Ear Tags Offered to Identify Lost Cats
- Share via
The Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals/Southern California Humane Society has initiated a new method to identify lost cats: ear tags.
The group says piercing a cat’s ear is a painless procedure and is safer for active felines, which face the risk of strangling themselves with an identification collar as they roam outdoors.
The tag, a stud disk with two phone numbers engraved on it, is available at the Los Angeles SPCA/SCHS, 5026 W. Jefferson Blvd. near La Brea Avenue, for $12.
The procedure is not recommended for dogs because there are too many blood vessels and nerves in their ears, the group said.
