Hastings-Phillips Helps Laguna Beach Win in Tennis

Amanda Hastings-Phillips swept at singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, as No. 1 Laguna Beach survived a scare to defeat No. 10 Corona del Mar, 10-8, in a nonleague girls tennis match Wednesday at Laguna Beach.
Laguna Beach’s No. 3 doubles team, Summer Terry and Kim Woodhouse, beat Jenny Glasgow and Christie O’Meara, Corona del Mar’s No. 1 duo, to give the Artists the winning margin.
In other nonleague girls’ tennis:
Beverly Hills 13, Marina 5--Alison Rimpau and Richelle Page won two sets at doubles for host Marina (2-2). Beverly Hills is 3-1.
Canyon 12, Troy 6--The doubles team of Shannon Wilkins and Kim Westermann did not lose a game in sweeping for visiting Canyon (6-0), ranked eighth. Wilkins and Westermann usually play No. 1 and 2 singles. Dana Kim swept at singles for Troy (1-4).
Katella 11, Fullerton 7--Patti Villaroman won her three singles sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, for Katella (2-3). Fullerton is 0-5.
Los Alamitos 10, Villa Park 8--In a must-win situation, Los Alamitos’ No. 3 doubles team of Sonia Ralli and Gina Ronzello defeated Villa Park’s No. 1 doubles team, 6-4, to give the Griffins the victory. Los Alamitos is 4-1.
Rosary 12, Sonora 6--Cheryl Hamilton, Eleanor Luzano and Michelle Hamilton swept at singles for visiting Rosary (4-0). Luzano did not lose a game. Sonora is 4-1.
Tustin 11, Santa Ana Valley 7--No. 1 doubles team Megan Yoss and Jessica Barnes swept their sets, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 to give Tustin its first victory.
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Dana Hills 3, San Clemente 0--Jenny Kessy led Dana Hills with 15 kills and Tricia Jenssen had 10 to help defeat San Clemente, 15-9, 15-7, 15-6. Skye Lewis had five blocks and 13 digs for Dana Hills, which improved to 9-1.
Santa Ana Valley 3, Savanna 1--Alli Napier had 10 kills for Santa Ana Valley, which defeated Savanna (1-1), 11-15, 15-13, 15-13, 15-11.
Sunny Hills 3, Foothill 0--Tegan Catlin paced Sunny Hills (3-0) with her seven blocks in the Lancers’ 15-7, 15-4, 15-13 victory over Foothill.
In nonleague water polo:
El Modena 18, Loara 6--Steve Taylor scored six goals and Ryan Keeler added four for host El Modena (3-2).
Santa Margarita 9, Canyon 7--Brent Reynard scored the final goal of the game for Santa Margarita. Steve Ferguson had 10 saves for Santa Margarita (4-3). Canyon is 5-2.
University 18, Western 6--Mark McGill scored five goals and Mark Sullivan scored three for host University (5-2). Western is 0-3.
