SOUTH PASADENA : City Cost for Prentiss Suit Now at $1.9 Million
- Share via
The city’s attorney costs in its legal battle against former Mayor Lee D. Prentiss have risen to $426,000, bringing the bill for the case to nearly $1.9 million, according to City Finance Director Barbara James.
Pasadena Superior Court Judge J. Michael Byrne earlier this month ordered the city to pay $248,000 in legal fees accumulated by Prentiss in addition to an outstanding jury award of $1.2 million. In July, a jury gave the award after deciding city officials violated Prentiss’ civil rights in 1990 by conspiring for political reasons to revoke a permit to expand his 86-year-old home.
On Monday, attorneys representing the city and Prentiss will meet with Byrne in an effort to settle the case and avoid appeals.
