HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : Flynn, Defense Lead Mater Dei Into Final

Santa Ana Mater Dei quarterback John Flynn threw for one touchdown and the defense accounted for another as the Monarchs defeated Lancaster Antelope Valley, 15-11, Friday in a Division I semifinal at Lancaster.
Mater Dei will play the winner of tonight’s game between Rialto Eisenhower and Encino Crespi next Friday.
The Monarchs (12-1) trailed, 5-0, at halftime, but rallied in the third quarter when Flynn completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Michael-John Rzeznik. He passed again to Rzeznik for a two-point conversion, giving the Monarchs an 8-5 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Robbie Tritz intercepted Mike Gleich’s pass and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown.
Trymon Redick scored on a 25-yard run for Antelope Valley (8-5) to make it 15-11 with nine minutes left.
