OUTLOOK
Although only three players return from last season’s second-place team, league coaches figure the Seahawks will be dangerous enough to challenge the league’s best. The biggest loss is point guard Jimmy Harris, the coach’s son, who averaged 18 points and 10 assists. He is now starting at Loyola Marymount. “I’ve always had an experienced point guard but not this year,” Coach Harris said. Pham, a JV starter with no varsity experience, should take over at the point. Johnson earned honorable mention all-league honors after averaging six points and three rebounds while shooting 62% from the field. McDonald, who was one of the top scorers for the junior varsity, should also contribute along with Morton, a sophomore who led the freshman team in rebounding. Carney also figures into Harris’ plans, but he’s not sure where. “We have a strange team,” Harris said. “I thought Carney would be our off guard, but he played really well in the post during our last scrimmage. People will play all over the place.” Although there are a lot of questions, Harris is excited about the upcoming season. “The last time we were in a situation like this was in ‘88; we were picked to finish fifth,” Harris said. “We finished first that season, so I keep looking back at that.”
