Clan of Iraqi Defector Condemns Him to Death

NICOSIA, Cyprus — A former Iraqi ambassador who defected to Britain was condemned to death by his clan Thursday, and President Saddam Hussein praised the decision, the Iraqi News Agency reported.
Former Ambassador to Tunisia Hamed Jubouri defected to Britain along with another former diplomat, Hisham Shawi, who served as ambassador to Canada.
The Jubouris are a major Sunni Muslim clan that has been a stalwart supporter of Hussein’s rule in the past.
