Disneyland Facility to Have Other Uses

* The concerns raised by Thomas H. Reiff (Letters, Aug. 8) about using $60 million in transportation funds for a parking structure are based upon incomplete information. I can fill in missing pieces.
The money is available for the Disneyland Resort East Parking Structure, which is the only place it will be used, only because some prior transportation projects were bid in under budget. The East Parking Structure will do more than serve Disneyland Resort; the structure will also contain Park N’ Ride facilities, a station for buses and shuttles, and eventually will be used for other transportation purposes, which probably will include light rail. Arrangements have been made for public agencies to get their fair share of receipts. Disney will be required to pay its fair share, and maybe more, for other infrastructure improvements, such as storm drains, water mains, a fire station and moving high-power electric lines under ground.
Not only will inclusion of the Park N’ Ride facility and the station for buses, etc., within the East Parking Structure encourage use of public transportation, Disney is required to take other measures to reduce use of private transportation.
