LOS ANGELES : Transit Board to Conduct Search for Chief Auditor
- Share via
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board voted Wednesday to conduct a two-month search for an inspector general, the person who will audit the proposed allocation of $183 billion to create a regionwide bus and rail network.
The position is seen by many as crucial to the integrity of the agency. As recently as last spring, the county’s transportation agency officials came under fire for frivolously spending about $2 million on entertainment, retreats and travel.
At issue was whether to automatically keep the current inspector general or open the process to all qualified candidates.
“It’s an incredibly important position for this agency; it’s incredibly important that this person have the highest ethical standards,” said Gerry Hertzberg, chief legislative deputy for Supervisor Gloria Molina, an MTA board member. “It would be a shame to have a repeat of the scandals of the past and lose the confidence of the public.”
