LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Burke’s Election Was Legitimate, D.A. Concludes

Yvonne Brathwaite Burke’s victory as Los Angeles County supervisor in a race against State Sen. Diane Watson’s election was not “stolen” through fraudulent voting practices, according to a report released Wednesday by Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti.
After losing the election in November, Watson questioned whether votes were withheld or falsified through computer tampering or other means.
Although an investigation did find that eight people voted twice, “our conclusions revealed nothing more than rumor, conjecture, speculation and innuendo,” Garcetti said.
The investigation is continuing, however. Instances of double voting included voter registrations on behalf of several dead people and a dog, and one instance of someone voting under the name of an improperly registered person.
