The Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990, which the FDA and USDA will begin enforcing next year, changes the way food is labeled. The new label, required on almost all packaged food, carries an up-to-date, easier-to-use nutrition information guide. If you have a difficult time understanding the new rules--and who doesn’t?--there’s an easy-to-read reference manual now available. Included in the 56-page guide are chapters on nutrition labeling, nutrient content claims and meat and poultry labeling. There’s even a sample format that presents the new label at a glance.
