LAKE FOREST : Council Delays Vote on Dayworker Ban
- Share via
The City Council this week delayed a decision on an ordinance that would make it illegal to solicit work or hire employees on city streets.
The ordinance is aimed at dealing with a pocket of day laborers that has arisen near Jeronimo Road and Cherry Avenue, much to the dismay of residents and business owners.
Council members voted 3 to 1 to postpone a decision on the ordinance till April 20, indicating that they wanted more information.
Councilman Richard T. Dixon voted against the delay, while Councilman Tim Link was absent from the meeting.
With a building supply company and a park nearby, the intersection has become a natural congregating place for day laborers, authorities say.
In both Lake Forest and Mission Viejo, people living and working in the area have complained about crime, drug use and verbal harassment of women allegedly committed by day laborers.
