McDonnell Wins Major Rocket Contract: The Air Force has awarded McDonnell Douglas a rocket-production contract that could be worth as much as $1 billion, the company said. The deal calls for the construction of as many as 36 Delta II rockets and amounts to a major victory for the firm, which has been beset by layoffs and contract problems. The rocket award went to McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, based in Huntington Beach, which is already under contract to build as many as 28 Delta rockets for the Air Force through 1995.
