LA PALMA — A 73-year-old Orange County man was critically injured Thursday when he was run over repeatedly by his own truck, police said.
Officers said Robert H. Betts of Tustin was driving on Sharon Drive at 10:40 a.m. when he stopped his pickup truck and got out.
Police said that when Betts tried to get back into the truck he apparently knocked the transmission into reverse, causing the truck to roll backward. Betts was dragged along the pavement until he lost his balance and fell.
The truck, which was stuck in reverse, continued to roll backward in circles and ran over Betts four times before a witness jumped in the vehicle and stopped it, police said.
Betts was airlifted to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed in critical condition.
