LOS ANGELES : Quarter-a-Ride Subway Fare to Last Through April
- Share via
Transit officials this week approved another one-month extension of the 25-cent fare for the Red Line subway.
The 25-cent subway fare was scheduled to end March 31. But officials decided to approve the fare for another month, an action they have taken every month since the Red Line opened in January.
The action is aimed at winning riders to the Red Line, which officials said carries an average of 15,000 passengers each weekday and 14,000 on weekends. When the Red Line opened, it carried 90,700. At its lowest, on Feb. 15, ridership plummeted to 5,000. Officials attributed that drop to rainy weather and the Presidents’ Day holiday.
