A job training center geared toward lessening the blow of hundreds of layoffs at Abex Aerospace will open Wednesday in Oxnard.
The Career Resource Center, at 3481 W. 5th St., Suite 100, will offer job counseling, information on resume preparation and telephones that can be used by job-seekers.
Although organizers said the center is being opened in the wake of layoffs by Abex Aerospace in Oxnard, it will provide job training to any Ventura County resident.
The center will also offer sign-ups for classroom training and job counseling, said Francisco De Leon, executive director of the Job Training Policy Council of Ventura County.
De Leon said the project aims to place 30 people in jobs by the end of June.
The council used a $480,000 federal grant to open the center and pay its staff.
Abex announced the closure of the plant, which manufactures hydraulic pumps and valves for defense purposes, in October. About 220 employees have lost their jobs already, and more layoffs are expected in May.
For more information on the Career Resource Center, call the Labor Employment Training Corp. at 983-2224. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
