Intervention in Bosnia

Your editorial “Huge Disappointment From Clinton on Bosnia” (Feb. 12) was right on target. From Bosnia to Bombay, from Moscow to Myanmar, the message has been heard loud and clear: Ethnic cleansing works and you can get away with it; genocide works and you can get away with it.
Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic might just have been right, when he recently stated that it appears that the high standard of living in the West has had such a desensitizing effect that it may have eroded the West’s commitment to basic moral principles and values to the point where the West, being unable or unwilling to make the distinction between the aggressor and his victims, sees the Bosnian tragedy as just another issue to be dealt with by compromise and conventional diplomacy. This does not bode well for the future. May God help us all.
