Patrick Murphy will be honored by the Los Angeles City Council today as the first recipient of the “Make a Difference” award for his work organizing the Canoga Park Memorial Day parade.
The award, given by Councilwoman Joy Picus, is intended to recognize people whose community work otherwise would go unnoticed.
“People like Patrick Murphy make neighborhoods like Canoga Park better,” Picus said in a statement. “We owe it to ourselves as a society to recognize them.”
Murphy, a Canoga Park resident, was credited by Picus with making the parade an annual event attended by thousands of west San Fernando Valley residents.
Murphy also volunteers at a home for people with developmental disabilities and is active in the Canoga Park Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and the Keep Youth Doing Something program.
