GM Recalls 396,000 Cars and Trucks: The No. 1 U.S. auto maker said it is recalling, under two separate programs, a total of 396,000 cars and trucks from the 1989-92 model years to fix faulty brake lights and replace engine fans. The first recall involves about 231,000 1989-92 Chevrolet and GMC compact trucks with 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engines without air conditioning. GM said the engine fans on those vehicles could break. The second recall concerns about 165,000 1992 Chevrolet Corsica and Beretta cars to replace the wiring harness connector for the brake lights. GM said those vehicles may have a defective connector that prevents the brake lights from working when the brake pedal is pressed.
