Cross-Country Partners: New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art will provide the San Jose Museum of Art with four successive large-scale survey exhibitions drawn from its permanent collection as part of a partnership announced between the two on Monday. Each exhibit will be installed for 18 months, with the first scheduled to open early in 1994. Extensive educational and community outreach programs based on the installations will be designed for the San Jose community, and under the deal the San Jose Museum also gets first option to be the Northern California venue for all traveling exhibitions organized by the Whitney.
