McDonald’s Corp., the world’s biggest fast-food restaurant chain, on Thursday reported record earnings for the third quarter, bolstered by rising U.S. sales and stronger foreign currencies overseas.
For the latest quarter, the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company said it earned a record $289 million, or 79 cents a share, compared to $259 million, or 71 cents a share, a year ago.
It also reported record sales of $1.9 billion for the quarter, up from $1.7 billion a year ago.
In the United States, the company benefited from its low-priced meal deals, and its foreign business was helped by stronger foreign currencies, despite weak economies in several major countries, the company said.
