PLACENTIA : Council Candidates to Debate Thursday

A candidates’ night will be held Thursday at the Whitten Community Center for the 12 people vying for three City Council seats in the Nov. 3 election.
The debate will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at 900 S. Melrose St., in a neighborhood known as La Jolla. The sponsors of the event, Casa Placentia Inc., a nonprofit, nonpartisan group, said it has been 10 years since a candidates’ night was held in this area, which suffers from drug trafficking, gang activities and graffiti.
The group hopes the event will stimulate residents to participate in the political process and to voice their concerns to candidates.
