Bell-Jeff scored 20 points in the first half Saturday and made it stand up for a 20-13 nonleague high school football victory over Santa Clara at Burroughs High.
Mike Garcia recovered a blocked punt in the Santa Clara end zone, and Mike Reyes intercepted an Alex Vega pass and returned it 18 yards for first-quarter touchdowns.
The Guards (1-3) also scored in the second quarter on Luke Barrett’s five-yard touchdown pass to John Pawlik. The score was set up by Pawlik’s 60-yard run on the previous play.
Pawlik gained 98 yards in nine carries and accounted for 103 of Bell-Jeff’s 134 total yards.
Paul Soliz rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown in 20 carries for Santa Clara (1-3).
