The Thrill Is Gone

Three cheers for Peter Rainer’s timely Film Comment on Hollywood’s glut of “thrillers” (Aug. 30). I recently saw at least five “coming attractions” depicting women chasing men with knives.
One had the good sense to be a comedy. The narration said: “In the tradition of such scary movies as ‘Fatal Attraction,’ ‘Basic Instinct’ and ‘Father of the Bride.’ ”
