OUTLOOK
Under Allen, the Cavaliers have held their own in the league, taking fourth last year after two consecutive fifth-place finishes. In order to improve on that, Santiago will need to find a suitable replacement for graduated quarterback Mike Carrasco (1,193 yards passing in ‘91). “That puts a dent in things,” Allen said. Perez, a hard-throwing pitcher on the Cavalier baseball team, probably will replace Carrasco. He didn’t play football last year because of a hip injury but was the quarterback on the freshman and junior varsity teams the previous two seasons. Wiemann, a wide receiver whom Allen said is a “pure athlete,” will be the backup. Minh Nguyen, Tafua, Espinoza and Ngan Nguyen solidify the defense. “We have a fine group of linebackers and defensive linemen,” Allen said. The Cavaliers also have plenty of depth.
