LOS ANGELES — A federal grand jury charged 30-year-old Altaden Leonard Bush of South Carolina with first-degree murder on Tuesday in the fatal shooting of Marine Sgt. Deborah House, 31, on the El Toro Marine base.
The four-count indictment also charges Bush with assault in the shooting of Cpl. Patrick Crudup, who had tried to help House, said Carole Levitzky, a spokesperson for the U.S. attorney’s office.
The shootings occurred Aug. 21. House, Bush’s former companion and the mother of his son, died five days later from a bullet wound to the head. Crudup is recovering from his wounds.
Bush, a former Marine, is scheduled to be arraigned in Santa Ana before U.S Magistrate Ronald W. Rose on Sept. 14, Assistant U.S. Atty. Susan Wiech said.
