Two men were killed Monday in apparently unrelated shootings in City Heights and south of Colina Park.
Robert Christopher Gerard, 21, an unemployed City Heights resident, was shot at 7:59 p.m. while walking in an alley off Fairmount Avenue near Quince Street, San Diego Police Lt. Tom Orden said. A car pulled alongside Gerard, and several shots were fired from inside. At least one bullet struck Gerard in the upper body, Orden said.
Gerard ran through the alley, scaled a fence, then collapsed in the driveway of a home in the 3300 block of Fairmount Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene, County Medical Examiner investigator Cal Vine said.
The second shooting occurred about 15 minutes later as Carlos Gomez, about 30, was walking in the 5200 block of University Avenue. Gomez was confronted by two armed men attempting to rob Gomez and a companion. Gomez, who lives in the neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene, Orden said. Gomez’s friend was not injured.
