Day-Laborer Story Praised

Many thanks to Hugo Martin for his story on the city’s day-laborer hiring center in North Hollywood. His account was thorough, accurate and warmly welcomed by those who have struggled to nurture the badly needed center over the past two years.
As the article pointed out, the city’s goal in establishing such centers is to provide a safer, more organized alternative to looking for work on the streets to the hundreds of people who daily seek employment on a citywide assortment of street corners.
At the North Hollywood site, it has been an uphill battle, one that had to overcome obstacles of controversy and misinformation. The experience has made us all the more appreciative of how much we can benefit from such objective, factual accounts.
