‘X’ Marks the Spot: Dressed in a light gray suit and bright red tie, Spike Lee breezed into Detroit to present clips from his new film “Malcolm X” to an audience of nearly 2,000 at this year’s National Assn. of Black Journalists’ annual convention, which ended Sunday. It was not the first time Lee has shown up at the convention with a film can under his arm. In 1985, the then-unknown director screened “She’s Gotta Have It” and created a buzz that helped carry that movie to word-of-mouth success. In an effort to create another such buzz, Lee closed the screening by asking the audience to show up Nov. 20. “Go see it opening day,” he pleaded. “You may have to wait for an hour or so, but that’s all right.”
