Two-time winner Emerson Fittipaldi broke his own track record by nearly 2 m.p.h. and won the provisional pole for Sunday’s Budweiser Cleveland Grand Prix with a speed of 142.778 m.p.h.
Fittipaldi won the race in 1987 and ‘89, and he took the pole last year before finishing second to Michael Andretti, the No. 2 qualifier both last year and Friday.
Indy car points leader Bobby Rahal qualified third at 140.856 m.p.h.
