Lester Shorr; Won First Emmy for Photography

Lester Shorr, 85, a cinematographer who won the first Emmy award for photography in 1954 for the “I Climb the Stairs” episode of the TV series “Medic.” Shorr, a former president of the American Society of Cinematographers, was a cameraman at the RKO and Columbia studios before moving to television. Over the years he filmed such TV shows as “Bonanza,” “The Beverly Hillbillies,” “The Odd Couple,” “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “Laverne and Shirley” and “Eight Is Enough.” He was credited with developing a multiple camera system in which each camera carried its own light and battery, eliminating restrictive cables. In Los Angeles on July 28.
