Bellflower : ‘Get-By Budget’ Includes Cuts, Repair Postponements

The City Council has passed a 1992-93 spending plan of $14.5 million that officials have labeled a “get-by budget.”
The council eliminated $45,500 in support for social welfare agencies, postponed $12 million in street repair projects and made a variety of other cuts, including construction of on- and off-ramps at Artesia Freeway (91) and Clark Avenue and left-turn signals at several major intersections.
The budget provides no cost-of-living increases for the city’s 75 employees.
“I’d like to think this is as lean as it’s going to be,” said Linda Lowry, assistant city administrator and finance director.
