Monrovia : Police Station Overhaul OKd

A $2-million overhaul of the Monrovia police station, including the addition of two buildings, was approved unanimously Tuesday by the City Council.

The overhaul will take two years. Plans call for basic computer automation of the dispatch and records departments, remodeling of the 12,500-square-foot building and adding a multipurpose meeting room and a 3,200-square-foot wing that will house the detective bureau and narcotics teams.

Money for the project will come from redevelopment agency reserves, sale of city property and a loan from a fund the city has set up to build a second Monrovia fire station. Voters twice rejected city ballot measures that would have assessed fees to residents and businesses to build a new police station.
