STILL GOLDEN: Less than two-tenths of a second. That’s how close Placentia’s Janet Evans came to another gold medal Tuesday in the Olympics’ 400-meter freestyle (C1). An eye-corner tear told her disappointment at finishing with the silver. But the triple gold-medal swimmer from the ’88 Olympics showed she can take defeat: “I don’t look on this with bitter resentment. I still have a world record, and (the gold) from four years ago.” . . . Today she swims in 800-meter freestyle qualifying heats; finals are Thursday.
