BARCELONA ’92 OLYMPICS: DAY 3 : DAILY REPORT : FIELD HOCKEY : Australian Women Shut Out Canada in Pool Competition

Australia, which is expected to successfully defend its Olympic title, got started on the right track by beating Canada, 2-0, in the opening round of women’s field hockey. Australia leads the standings in Pool A.
In Pool B, the Netherlands beat Britain, 2-1, and South Korea defeated New Zealand, 5-0, to take the top spot. Germany and Spain tied, 2-2.
Play continues on Wednesday when Australia is scheduled to play Germany. Neither the U.S. men’s nor the women’s teams qualified for the Olympics.
